Resources & Economy

Roblade’s economy is built around the movement of useful resources through the world: players gather, grow, produce, and build, and value comes from what an item enables inside the game. This page maps out the currency and materials, where everything comes from and where it goes, and the design principles that keep the economy healthy for the long run.

Numbers shown here are illustrative. The live game is always the source of truth — values may change as the economy is rebalanced. See Changes and Rebalancing.

Gold and materials

Gold is the game’s currency. It is uncapped — there is no limit on how much you can hold — and it is distinct from Gold Ore, which is a material. Gold pays for buildings, seeds, and animal feed, and connects to on-chain value through the ETH exchange described in Progression.

Materials live in your warehouse, which holds up to 999 of each — a cap that upgrading your house multiplies (see Buildings & Workers). They fall into three families:

  • Core materials — Wood, Stone, Food, Wool, and Ore. These are the backbone of construction and production.
  • Animal products — eggs, feathers, milk, horns, and exotic variants produced by the 8 ranch animals. See Ranching.
  • Crop produce — each of the 21 crops yields its own produce item when harvested. See Farming.

Because storage is finite and Gold is not, a recurring question shapes your play: what do I turn my materials into before the warehouse fills up?

Sources and sinks

A sustainable economy needs both sources (how a resource enters circulation) and sinks (how it is consumed). The design rule is simple: everything that enters the economy must have somewhere meaningful to go — a sink should create progress, expression, or convenience, never destroy resources just to make numbers go down.

Two live systems deserve a highlight:

  • The monastery is the economy’s flagship conversion loop — it gives Wool a permanent destination and gives players a renewable Gold income tied to real production.
  • NPC orders ask you to deliver specific resources for Gold and XP, refreshing daily. Orders create demand across the whole material list, so nothing you produce is ever pointless.

Shared world resources — trees and rocks — belong to the map, not to any one player: you can gather from a node even when it stands on someone else’s territory. Ownership of land and access to world resources are deliberately separate ideas; see World, Land & Territories.

The four economic layers

Roblade’s economy is designed to grow through four layers:

  1. Personal economylive today. You manage your own Gold, materials, production capacity, storage, and building priorities. Everything on this page describes this layer.
  2. Player marketplanned. Players will exchange resources and products based on different needs and specializations.
  3. Kingdom economyfuture vision. Citizens contribute to shared infrastructure, complete public tasks, and trade through kingdom facilities. See Kingdom Economy.
  4. Inter-kingdom economyfuture vision. Specialized kingdoms exchange goods, services, and access to infrastructure. See The Roblade Vision.

Only the personal layer is implemented today. The later layers will be introduced when real player activity demonstrates a genuine need for them — the economy expands because players demand it, not because a roadmap says so.

Design principles

Four principles guide every balancing decision:

Utility first. Resources and currencies earn their place through clear in-game purpose. Value should come from what an item does — a visible building, a fed animal, a completed order — not from an assumption that every resource will become a financial asset.

Controlled emissions. Production rates, cooldowns, warehouse caps, and the daily XP taper prevent unlimited growth from a small number of repetitive actions. Sources are throttled so sinks can keep up.

Diverse demand. Construction, ranching, decoration, and orders each consume different combinations of resources. A healthy economy never depends on one universal material — and no material should exist only to add inventory clutter.

Anti-manipulation. Raw activity volume should never automatically translate into rewards. The XP taper is the first live expression of this; future market and kingdom systems will measure real economic activity — unique participants, net movement, fees paid — rather than raw transaction counts.

Balancing is continuous, not a launch-day decision. Costs, yields, cooldowns, and caps will be adjusted as real player behavior becomes visible.

What’s coming

Several economic systems are in development and not live yet (see the Roadmap for phase status):

  • Player-to-player trading. A market with clear listings, transparent settlement, and reasonable fees, letting players specialize and exchange surplus instead of producing everything themselves. Trade is meant to make gathering, farming, and building more valuable — not to replace them. Longer term, kingdoms may operate their own Royal Markets with citizen benefits.
  • Selling produce for Gold. Crop produce will become directly sellable, giving farming a Gold income stream to rival the monastery.
  • Processing and manufacturing. Buildings that turn basic materials, crop produce, and animal products into specialized goods — creating new demand for everything the current economy generates.

Until these ship, the world, trade, and help chat channels are the social layer of the economy: live today, and the best place to plan with other players. For current status, see the Roadmap.
